Fun on snow and ice

Mühviertler Kernland offers a wide range of activities during the winter, which you can enjoy in the fresh air with your family or friends. Afterwards delicious delicacies from the Upper Austrian cuisine are waiting for you in the region’s inns.

Gentle hills characterise Mühlviertler Kernland. But there are also enough ski runs for your skiing fun. In Sandl you will find a ski region on the 1,111m high Viehberg Mountain. Three tow lifts will take you up the mountain.

Through Mühlviertler Kernland with the horse

This region is popular for the wonderful hours you can spend on a horse’s back in the natural environment. Not only during the summer, but also in the winter. Enjoy horse-back riding with an instructor or explore the landscapes on a horse on your own – many stables provide you with the best horses.

Winter activities on ice

Slide on your blades over the ice. In Freistadt you will find an ice rink, where you can of course borrow ice skates for you and your children. Test your accuracy at the curling lane. A traditional sport in Upper Austria, which will show how much aiming talent you have. You will find curling lanes in most of the 16 Kernland municipals.

If you prefer more velocity, look forward to a visit at the toboggan run in Sandl. Get on the toboggan and feel the airstream in your face.
