The young town on the Aist
Visit one of the oldest markets in Upper Austria, where already in the 14th century active trading took place. Today Pregarten in Mühlviertler Kernland is a young town with great nature and culture offers, which you can enjoy with your family or friends.
Probably the oldest and most popular building is the “Bäckenhaus”, where today the local museum is located; the Bruckmühle mill, which was constructed according to the neo-Gothic style and the St. Anna church.
Visit Pregarten – the town on the river
Pregarten is the perfect starting point for many hikes along the Feldaist. Short or long – the Feldaist system will help you with sign-posts along the way. Hike up the river in direction Kefermarkt. You will pass beautiful natural spectacles, the Pechölstein, a gigantic rocket and historic buildings like the Kumpfmühle mill. Down the river you will find mills and mystic virtuous places. The way will lead you to Wartberg in Kriehmühle, where fried trout is the local specialty.
Art and culture in Pregarten
The ambitious art and culture programme at the Bruckmühle culture centre will delight you. Various activities and productions by actors and artists take place throughout the year.
More than four hundred people have already visited the Brückmühle mill since 1999. This means that it is the most visited culture house in the country side.
The Reichenstein fortress ruin was first documented in 1230 and was enlarged or rebuilt by various Lords. Since 1989 the ruin has been restored and made public.
