The Gothic Road is a beautiful experience for all guests, who are fascinated by culture. Especially in the late Middle Ages a lot of churches were built in Mühlviertel. Gothic elements and altars have been constructed here. One of the most famous is the winged altar in Kefermarkt. The two winged altars in Grünbach and St. Michael are also very popular excursion destinations, which you can discover on the 180km long Gothic road. In total 30 stages await you with precious art treasures.
During your excursion to the winged altar in Kefermarkt you should bring enough time to also visit the beautiful Weinberg Castle. The fortress is considered to be one of the most impressive in Upper Austria. It was first mentioned in 1305, but it seems to be much older than that. Especially the Easter market inside the castle walls is an annual true highlight.
Freistadt in Mühlviertler Kernland
Visit the town and also the region’s biggest valley with its little streets, the beautiful market place, which offer a lot of fascinating cultural features. From here you can start your tour on the museum road.
